Application for a Certificate of Smoke Detector, Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Kitchen Fire Extinguisher Compliance.

Temporary Change to the Application Process

Due to the evolving situation involving COVID-19, the Princeton Bureau of Fire Safety is temporarily suspending all CSACMAPFEC inspections and modifying the procedure for obtaining a Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC) required under N.J.A.C 5:70-2.3(a). We are taking these protective measures to help ensure the safety of the residents and staff of Princeton. The applicant will complete the form and pay all associated fees. Once your applications is received we will contact you. We are providing the sellers/landlords of 1 and 2-Family dwellings with the following options.
Sale of a Home:
Option #1- During this period, the sellers of 1 and 2 family dwellings may postpone their closing until such time that we resume the CSCMAPFEC inspections. Please note that we cannot provide a date when we will resume these inspections; or
Option #2- The seller will submit a CSACMAPFEC application and fee to Fire Safety and the Sellers, Buyers and their attorneys will complete the below affidavit. Under Option # 2, the Buyer will be assuming the responsibility to obtain the CSACMAPFEC at a later date, after the closing. If the property is equipped with a monitored fire alarm system, the seller shall provide a valid NFPA 72 testing certification from a licensed alarm company. Fire Safety will review and approve the affidavit, email the “approved affidavit” to the parties and allow the closing to take place. If the seller and buyer agree to this procedure, we recommend that funds be held in an escrow. This would be used to cover any corrections that the buyer may be required to do in order to obtain the CSACMAPFEC.
Rental of a Home:
The Landlord will submit a CSACMAPFEC application, along with the fee, to Fire Safety. They shall also complete the below affidavit and attach it to the application. If the property is equipped with a monitored fire alarm system, the landlord shall provide a valid NFPA 72 testing certification from a licensed alarm company. Fire Safety will review and approve the affidavit, email the “approved affidavit” to the Landlord and allow the rental to take place. At a later date, the landlord shall provide access for Princeton to perform a CSACMAPFEC and a Rental Housing Inspection.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time,
Joseph Novak
